Printable Exit Tickets: Easy Paper Setups for Any Classroom

Paper exit tickets are fast, reliable, and easy to collect at the door. With a little setup, they take almost no time each day. Here is how to make printable exit tickets work.

Pick a size

  • Half sheet (2 per page): Room for a worked math problem or a sketch.
  • Quarter sheet (4 per page): The most popular size. Enough room for a few sentences.
  • Small slip (6 per page): Good for one-sentence answers and quick checks.

What to put on the slip

  • A line for name and date.
  • The question, written in plain words.
  • Lines to write on, so answers stay neat.
  • Nothing else. Fancy borders waste ink.

Print once, use all week

Print a stack of blank-question slips with just a name line and writing lines. Then put the day’s question on the board. Students copy nothing and answer on the slip. One print job can cover a whole week or more.

Set up a tray system

  • Keep blank slips in one tray by the door.
  • Put a second tray for finished slips right next to it.
  • Students grab one on the way in or at the five-minute warning.
  • They drop it in the finished tray on the way out.

No printer? Use sticky notes

Sticky notes are the cheapest exit ticket there is. Students write their answer and stick it on the door or a chart. You can sort them right on the wall into “got it” and “not yet” before you take them down.

Store them for later

Keep each class’s exit tickets in a folder or envelope by week. They are useful for parent meetings, report card comments, and spotting a student who has been struggling quietly. Toss them at the end of the unit if you do not need them. Some teachers clip one slip per student into a portfolio at the end of each unit, so they have a record of growth across the year without keeping every single piece of paper.

Print free exit tickets

Our free exit ticket tool has a Printables tab. Pick any prompt, choose 2, 4, or 6 slips per page, and print. The question is already on every slip, so students just write their answer.
